Can I live and roam around Paris for $5000 in 1 week?
Hello to Everyone! I am new to this site. I enjoy traveling so much. I have been to 10 countries already: US (Boston, NY, RI), Japan(Tokyo & Fukushima), Bangkok Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Hongkong, Macau, Seoul Korea & Bangladesh. And wanted to see Paris after my trip to Sri Lanka but I have limited budget. My question is - can I live and roam around Paris for 1 week with $5000 USD only? That's inclusive of hotel accommodation. Thanks for responding to my question!

I'll show you how if you pay my way!!!
Yes, it is more than doable on $5k/week. |
$5K is more than enough unless you stay in a really expensive hotel and eat in the most expensive restaurants.
|
Of course you can visit Paris for $5,000 per week. I can do it on much, much less.
|
yes, and quite comfortably i might add. that budget could sustain 3 people easily
|
YOU can visit probably anywhere in the world for that amount, can't you? USD$700 per day? I presume that doesn't include your airfare, though, I note you live in Bangladesh so I imagine it could be an expensive airfare from there.
I wonder if you may be mistaken about how much money that is. |
Is this a joke? $5K is plenty...Your be able to stay somewhere decent and even have money for spending.
|
Not if you plan on buying a Birkin.
:-) |
Only if you're careful !
|
Hey LP,
I'll be glad to show you Paris, just pay my expenses. |
Enjoy it. I understand because in the past when we have been to Europe we spent on average about $5000 per week but that included airfare and everything for two people so you should be fine.
|
THis does raise an interesting question, is there anywhere in the world where you could not get by on US$700 per day as a tourist?
I know some of the most expensive cities are Moscow and Tokyo and Oslo, from what I've heard, and of course in the US, NYC is very expensive. And there are some African cities that are also very expensive, surprisingly, but I think that is to live (Luanda, Angola). BUt surely even in expensive cities like Moscow or Tokyo, a tourist can survive on $700 a day. Scandinavia is very expensive for tourists, isn't it? where could a tourist not survive on $700 a day |
Yes, very well!
|
What a ridiculous question! If authentic, then a fool and his money are soon parted!

I agree with Robert, I am sorry but any adult who apparently is as well travelled as OP should have a reasonable expectation that their budget for Paris is more then reasonable. I do not consider this a genuine post, or if sincere, then find it hard to understand how much OP thinks a realistic budget is and wonder if they are a trust fund baby..
|
Could it be a typo and the OP means 500, or wrong conversion of another currency?
I'm sure if he's travelled, he knows what he can do with $5000. |
Thanks a lot for the response. Honestly I don't have an idea of how much is the cost of living or touring there though I thought of visiting Paris even before but never search of how much. It is not my habit to ask how much when I don't have money in hand. I only used to ask the price when I am not sure if I have enough money.I am not rich but when I have extra money, I always thought of visiting a new place at least once or twice in a year.
Dukey1 said $5000 for 2 persons. Great! Me and my husband can travel together. Let say, we will start in Sri Lanka - 2 persons - package for 1 week inclusive of hotel & air ticket. Is it still doable? How much is the cheapest package for 2 persons? Thanks again! |
That's a whole different question - the $5000 includes airfare for 2 people? Do you know the airfare from Sri Lanka to Paris? Do you know how much you will have left for accommodation, meals, tickets, transportation in Paris, etc? You probably don't want a package if you are visiting only Paris. I seldom suggest this but perhaps you should consult with a travel agent.

I think we may be being a little unfair to the OP. If you have heard that London and Paris are very expensive, then it is probably wise to ask. Some of the questions often asked are "What do you call reasonable?" or "what is your budget?"
That said, if $5000 a week is considered a limited budget, I wonder how the OP would view my normal :-) |
Looks like airfare clocks in about $1000 (next May). So it's $3000/week for 2. $425/day.
