Can I get to Split from Ljubjana in one day?

Can I get to Split from Ljubjana in one day? Either by ferry or bus?

I'm in the middle of planning another 2 month trip to East Europe and am wondering about this link =)

Thanks!

Ljubljana is NOT on the coast.
You can probably take a bus to Zagreb and another bus from Zagreb to Split.
If the connections are good, should not be a problem

Thanks! Ok haha, I was thinking a bus to Pula and then a Ferry down to Split maybe but that seems like a lot to arrange and would take some luch with schedules. It seems like buses in this area might be better?

So you think it's possible to bus from Ljubjana to Split in one day?

There is no ferry from Pula to Split. Train or bus to Zagreb, then bus to Split is your best bet of making it in one day (meaning within 24 hours).

Thanks! I'm thinking that the train from Ljubjana to Zagreb runs often and we could get to Zagreb early in the day, but how often do those buses to Split from Zagreb run? We'd like to get to Split at a decent time (not 3 in the morning hehe)

I do not know about buses there, but if you drive, you definitely can do it. We drove from south of Vienna, thru Ljubjana ( we had been there before) to Verona Italy in a day,( in an RV).

The roads are good, and I would bet it is much shorter distance. So you could look at car rental for the day possibly.

Hey thanks for the rent a car tip! We will definitely look into that. So what time and cost do you think it would set us back to drive from Ljubjuana to Split Croatia?

Train connections are on www.bahn.de. It's certainly possible in one day (with a long lunch stop in Zagreb) or there is an overnight sleeper from Zagreb to Split.
Alternatively, take a train or bus from Ljubljana to Rijeka, then Jadrolinija's overnight ship which leaves on Monday and Friday evenings and gets to Split in the morning; the ship has cabins, a restaurant and bars (www.jadrolinija.hr).
Buses along the coast from Rijeka to Split take about eight hours and run every hour or so during the day.

there is a bus and train service from Ljubljana to Zagreb - about 2 and half hours ( only 120 km)
From Zagareb there are many buses to Split - 380 km.

Now that I've done this I figure that I should report back and say that this is 100% definitey possible =)

We left early from Ljubljana on a train to Zagreb and then hopped one of the many buses to Split and got there with hours left on our day to just bum around and have a good time in the beautiful city. That Bus to Split is only about 5 hours now that the highway to Split has been heavily upgraded.

I wrote a little update about that leg of our journey here if anyone is interested:

=)

And thanks so much for everyone's help! I really appreciate it!
