Can I fly from Andalucia to Morocco?

And if so, what gateways?? I'm just starting out my plan - my husband and I will be going early October. Spending a few days in Andalucia and then moving on to Morocco, probably spending most of our time in Marrakech.
I feel like I'm seeing a ton of information about the ferry into Tangier, but I'd rather not do that. Can I fly directly into Marrakech?
Thanks in advance!

The only flights I have ever found that go to Morocco depart from either Barcelona or Madrid, and the cheapest flights landed in Casablanca. The ferry to Tangier is a good idea, actually, and is not particularly stressful, just don't take it into Ceuta, or you and yours are pretty much screwed for getting into Morocco (unles you are like me and just risqué enough to end up hitchhiking). Take the ferry into Tangiers and then a taxi to the train station, where you can take the night train to Marrakech (12 hours). It is one of the most comfortable night trains I have ever used, and it ends up being very cheap.

Yikes! The commute is going to be much longer than I was anticipating!

Thanks for the headsup!

Though I did a lot of research to get to Morocco and opted for probably the worst route in the end, I think it can definitely be done. Depending on how much money you are willing to put into this, you might find a way to fly into Casablanca and then on to Marrakech on a local airline (royal Maroc has flights).

Oddly enough, Morocco reminds me a lot of Norway in that it is long and the cities are very spaced out. Marrakech is the farthest south most people ever go, and it is a long way down. How much time do you have for this trip? What you might want to do is make your way to Fez (7 hours North of Marrakech) for a few days, then on to Marrakech. You can get flights from there to the US pretty easily.

Thanks for the advice.

We're only spending 4 nights in Morocco so we'll probably stick to Marrakech and hopefully get out to the desert for one night.

I've checked flights and they're horrific, so the ferry/train combo might be the way to go!

Thanks again for the advice and tips and links.

Hi BostonGal,
Another way of finding what destinations a particular Spanish airport serves to use www.aena.es, the official Spanish airports site. It gives other useful info like transport from airport to city.

I just chose Malaga, and it lists that there is service to Casablanca and to Tangiers. But it's probably quite expensive. Most everyone takes the ferry/hydrofoil to Tangiers. In the 80s, I actually took that Malaga-Tangier Royal Air Maroc flight (long story....!)
