Can I fit in 2 nights somewhere else?
 

Going to Prague to visit my son. He thinks 3 nights is enough but I have 4 reserved. Then I have 2 nights to play with. Then we go to Berlin for 5 nights.

I could do 6 nights in Berlin but that seems like alot?

Should we go somewhere for 2 nights? Vienna? Then fly to Berlin

Or many suggest Dresden on way to Berlin?

I dont want to do too much but is 4 nights prague and 6 nights Berlin too much?

Would love to see more but dont want to be too exhausted.

Any ideas/suggestions

Would you start in Vienna, instead of backtracking? I definitely would consider Vienna, but wonder about the logistics.

I had 5 nights in Prague and could have used more. Did a day trip to Terezin. Loved Prague!

Also spent a night in Cesky Krumlov.

Adding time in Prague, with day trips, isn't the worst idea in the world.

First time I went to Berlin I left feeling like I really wished I'd had more time. Second time, I felt I'd booked too many days. If you've not been before you might be glad for the extra day in Berlin -- and you can always take day trips elsewhere if the city doesn't grab you. Also depends on whether everything you want to see will be open during the days you are now scheduled to be there

I'm not an enormous fan of day trips but I end up preferring to be in a place slightly too long with the option of a day trip or two than feeling like I wish I could go back to a place -- which is always so expensive and time consuming. Also, I like the idea of a "back up" day in case the destination has several outdoor venues I want to see, which wouldn't be enjoyable if my only option to see them is in the rain.

Vienna is, for me, all about sightseeing many historic interiors and museums, so a 2 day visit would be an exercise in frustration. But if you are the type of traveler who enjoy a bit of whirlwind glamour, dipping into a city for some highlights and fancy food, might work.

Six days in Berlin would be too many for me.

Four nights in Prague would not be / was not too much for me. I loved it. I never got tired of it. But, Prague is compact and charming - a great walking town. There is actually much more to see in Berlin, but it's a big, spread-out city, and even though some people seem to love it, I found its charms elusive. Berlin to me was all about seeing sites (and there are many). Prague was about walking around and experiencing the charm - plus seeing some things.

A day trip to Cesky Krumlov is an easy way to justify at least one extra day in Prague. There is a direct train from Prague now (though the train station seems not in the center of Cesky Krumlov), but there are direct buses as well, several a day, that would put you right in the center.

Stopping for a night or two in Dresden wouldn't be a bad idea either. This was another city I didn't fall in love with, but some do - maybe you will.

For good overall looks Berlin pales Prague but it is also a new world capital still being transformed and built - interesting architecture but not that dreamy look of Prague.

But things like Third Reich relics intrigue some and there are many and great museums - hard to tell how many days any one person may find enough to see and experience either one.

It depends on your interests! 4 nights in Prague would not be enough for me. 6 nights in Berlin would not be enough for me. But maybe those times would work for you. And I'm sure a night or two in Dresden would be lovely.

Have you laid out what YOU want to see and experience on a calendar, taking into consideration times when those places are closed? That's really the only method that has a chance of yielding an answer for YOU.

Before I even clicked on this thread (or the other one) my thought was, "Dresden." It's a natural fit in the Prague-Berlin itinerary, especially if you don't want to be exhausted by travel. Though, if you can start in Vienna, then a two-night taste of Vienna might be a good fit.

The time of year of your travel, and as kja writes, your interests can also impact the itinerary. There are lots of holidays (translation: closures) over the next several months, another variable to be considered.

though Dresden makes sense even in a 4- or 5-day Berlin stay you can do easy day trips to nearby Potsdam and its wondrous San Soucci palace and park and to a grisly old concentration camp - Sachenhausen just north of Berlin by local train- so even if you have 6 days in Berlin that doesn't mean just Berlin but other nearby places as well.

Like I did a day trip to nearby Poland once just to experience once again that very different country - about an hour by train.

I would definitely consider Dresden - a great stop for 2 nights and it fits beautifully with this itinerary.

I think Cesky Krumlov is more enjoyable if you stay at least 1 night. Evening is magical with the city lit up and quieter with the day trippers gone.
