can I exchange francs for euros?

I have about 300 francs (paper) from an old trip to france. Is there a way to exchange these into euros, or are they worthless? Thanks.

and if you can't find one in the city you're going it's even worthless: with the commission you'll get but a few euros. Keep the banknote as a collectible...

When we tried this, they would only accept paper money, not coins.

Hi Cathy,

The Bank of France site advises that your French franc bills are still exchangable at the Bank of France, until February 2012. The rate is 6.56 francs to the euro, and there is no charge for the exchange. So there is approximately 40 euros, or more approximately $50, waiting for you here. Good excuse for a trip to Paris!

Following is the text on this:

"Pendant 10 ans à compter du 17 février 2002, les billets en francs sont changeables gratuitement à la Banque de France et à l'IEDOM."

The IEDOM has offices in Guadeloupe, Guyane, Martinique, Réunion, Mayotte, and St-Pierre et Miquelon - moe nice places to recover your 4o euros.

I've exchanged francs at the French National Bank and there is absolutely no commission whatsoever. This is not some tourist exchange service. I thought the possiblity was over by now, but if Dave says they still do, I'd believe it.
