Can I carry Avocado and Sweet Potato to Germany

I AM TRAVELLING WITH MY 9MONTH OLD SON FROM DUBAI TO GERMANY,... CAN I CARRY AVOCADOS AND SWEET POTATOS WITH ME??

quokka Aug 28th, 2017 10:17 PM

You can, but why would you want to? Both are available in any supermarket.

And please stop SHOUTING at us.

kerouac Aug 28th, 2017 10:42 PM

I confirm they are available everywhere in Europe, not just Germany.

Mainhattengirl Aug 30th, 2017 07:39 PM

Yes, both of these items are available in Germany, but for a baby, they will want a cooked sweet potato. So, yes, you can bring them with you. Probably in your plastic bag carrying your liquids.

Sassafrass Aug 30th, 2017 09:27 PM

You can also buy good quality baby foods in Europe and sweet potato is popular in baby foods.

massimop Aug 30th, 2017 09:54 PM

Just a clarification: Avocados are a rare item in most of Italy. Very few places, even in Rome or Milan, reliably have them Sweet potatoes are almost non-existent in Italy. I have only seen them in health food stores. Sicily may be an exception for both items, but even then, you would need to know where to go.

Since this question is about Germany, not Italy, please refer to answers 1-3.

I understand bringing food for the baby with you for the first day or two - but loading your luggage with large, heavy amounts of food for the entire stay isn't necessary.

Nonconformist Aug 30th, 2017 10:28 PM

OP isn't going to Italy.

massimop Aug 30th, 2017 10:44 PM

I know that but broad statements about these foods being available all over Europe were made by others in this thread and are false.

A lot of people come to the Fodor's forums and do searches rather than ask questions. It is astonishing the amount of incorrect information that is posted here by aggressive "Fodorites" posing as experts on Europe. Their main interest is not to help travelers with answers but to jump into threads where they can look superior & mock the supposedly less sophisticated newbies with all their hilariously backward ideas about Europe. And then the post something ignorant.

Where I can, I correct it for the sake of people traveling.

quokka,

Answer #2 is false, so people should ignore it or correct it, not repeat the error.
