Can I apply for UK visa while I am in Europe?
 

My current residence is Australia and I can't wait to apply for UK visa from UK embassy in AUS as I have to be in Germany in the next couple of days. As I will be in Germany for academic-visit pusrposes (for a month), can I apply for UK visa there? It's very important for me... Any comment is appreciate.

Thank you for your reply! The issue is when I fill the form in the on-line application ... when it come to the section which I have to book my appointment, the form just allowed me to select between Australian centers (i.e Sydney, canberra,..).
Should I put Germany as my current resident country when I am filling the application form in stead of Australia?

So, still wondering about my question on whether they would accept my application to be processed in a country that I am not living in.

There's no "usual" about a process that 200 independent countries organise in 200 different ways.

I assume lincasanova lives in that ridiculous Schengen pseudo-state, whose inhabitants have been brainwashed by their masters into the delusion that everything's organised by one computer in Brussels.

There's no mention on the UK Visas website of any requirement to apply for a visa in the country an applicant lives in. That may be because the UK authorities have messed up the website, or it may be because they appreciate that not all potential visitors live easily compartmentalised lives.

Just for experience from USA requests and Spain and other European requests. I said "usually" as I am not certain there may be some exceptions.

Of course he should call. I assumed he has been unable to get through yet and is hoping to get a feel for what they may tell him on the phone. Who knows why people come here for visa information? All we can do is share what we know first hand from our own experiences ( for the past 40 yrs. in my case)

This is not an official website, but here it does mention " in your country of residence" whereas on official sites it says " check lists of offices in your country".

What is the country of your passport?

Have a look at these links - they might be of some help. The second guide refers to the Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme (not sure if that is the one you want) and indicates you can apply outside your country of nationality if you "provide evidence of permission to be in the country where you are applying if you are not a native of that country" The evidence includes a residence permit or valid visa.

We're also Australians and my son has recently gone through a similar process here in Sydney however he was applying under another visa category. It would have been much easier if he could have completed all formalities while he was undertaking his student exchange in Leiden to finish his degree!
