Can I apply for a UK visa while abroad?

I am a US citizen, and this coming September Ill be studying in London so I need to apply for a Tier 4 student visa.
Currently I am in France, and I will be here until I go to London in the beginning of September. I would have applied for my visa earlier when I was in the US but I couldnt apply before June 29th, and I left for France July 2nd.
The UK visa website says I need to set up an appointment for my application, can I do this at the US embassy in Paris? Or the embassy in London?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you need to apply for a UK visa, you go to the UK Embassy, not the U.S. embassy. Since you are in France, I suggest going to the one in Paris. The UK embassy.
