I am in Iceland at this very moment. I am doing a two day stop over courtesy of Icelandair which had the best prices to Europe this summer. I am staying at the Hotel Fron, right on the main street for $121 (that's US dollars) for a double room. It's huge, clean, has a kitchenette with fridge, microwave, two burner stove top. Free wi-fi. Very decent breakfast included. So while there are certainly more luxurious hotels I can't see why any normal person would NEED anything more expensive. For dinner tonight I had fabulous fish and chips with small salad - extremely fresh - for 2200 ISK (I think that's about $15)including a coke. There are obviously much classier restaurants all over the place but even some of them were not even double that so that's still pretty reasonable. With three teens I'd eat at the place I did and save the linen table cloths for another time. Tomorrow I am going on the golden circle classic tour which is about $70 per person. You can get a tour for just about anything here, boat, bus ,jeep and none of them seemed considerably more than that.

I'll write a trip report and post photos but that won't be for at least a month - I am just beginning this trip.
