Can anyone recommend a good wine tour in Umbria?

We are going to visit Umbria for a week in May, staying in Spello. We love wine, especially the Sagrantino and are hoping to do a tour of a few wineries in the area. Recommendations of a Wine Tour Company, or which wineries to visit? We did a wine tasting at Paolo Bea in 2009 that was great, and want to do more this time.

I see Gusto Wines online... Has anyone used them?

Thanks.

The Arnaldo Caprai winery is larger and less "mom and pop" than Paolo Bea. Its toward Bevagna, but anyone in Montefalco can direct you. FWIW, my favorite eatery in Montefalco is L'Alchemista. Enter the enoteca on the main square and take the stair down. The antipasti never end.

I should have done my Spello recommendation, too. La Bastiglia is a nice hotel at the top of Spello with views, parking and an adventurous kitchen.

Thank you DRJ... Arnaldo Caprai and L'Alchemista are on our lists!! I'll have to check out La Bastiglia for a meal as well.

I know Gusto well and can recommend them highly. You can see a blog post of my day spent on their wine tour here: http://www.brigolante.com/en/2010/03...and-be-driven/

I also recommend Alessandra from Discovering Umbria: http://www.discoveringumbria.it/en/wine_tour.html

Enjoy Umbria!

We did a Gusto Wine tour last May. It was one of the many hightlights of our two week stay in Umbria. I would recommend Gusto Wine tours even to my brother in law, the wine snob ;;) Deborah

DeborahAnn - Another vote for Gusto... we may just have to splurge. And I'll be traveling with my brother-in-law who is also a wine snob!! Thank you!

This is great information.

PSG--the tour was a splurge for us as well but after taking it we thought it was travel money well spent. We really enjoyed the Montefalco Sagrantino wine but I can't find any here in MD. I'm glad we brought a few bottles back with us ;;) Have a great trip. Deborah

DeborahAnn - Not sure if you'll see this, but if you get in touch with us at Gusto, we might be able to help you find some Sagrantino! Not sure if I'm allowed to put our email address on here, so look us up on our website! Cheers!
