Can anyone recommend a good seafood restaurant in Hamburg?

We will only be there one night and we'd really like to have a memorable meal-food is more important that atmosphere. We are open to anything with great seafood!

We got both (great seafood and cool atmosphere) at Parlament, the newly renovated restaurant underneath the Rathaus. (If by some chance your travels are taking you to Luebeck, I can give an even stronger endorsement of the Schiffergesellschaft - a truly memorable dining experience!)

THE place for generations has been Fischereihafen Restaurant.
It is located at the fish market in an unimpressive red brick building, right on the river bank.
The seafood is of outstanding quality. Service and ambiance traditional.
Most celebrities visiting town (or living there) dine there once in a while.

An alternative would be Fischmarkt, which I like a lot, too, despite the fact that it doesn't offer views. It is not on the fish market, but close to the river, right below St. Michael's church on Ditmar-Koel-Str. Lofty atmosphere with a show kitchen. Professional yet warm service. Less formal than Fischereihafen Restaurant, but still special.

Finally, also a good reputation: Fischkueche. The owner once had some trouble keeping the restaurant running and received funding by patrons who enjoyed it so much. It's been ever there since and also offers good quality seafood in a location on a busy corner opposite the Speicherstadt.

The order of the restaurants would reflect my preference for your purposes here (with the two first ones being very close).

If you are rather looking outstanding Sushi creations, you should look at Henssler & Henssler. Also located on the fish market, it's is housed in an old fish warehouse, no views, but modern, very vibrant (and slightly noisy) interiors. The noise is of a nature that provides intimacy, though, as the place is better when bustling rather than half empty. It's always bustling, though.

Hello Skoop:

We spent 5 days in Hamburg in late September. I think you cannot go wrong by following HSV's recommendations; we did and had some great meals. As for the priority list given by HSV, we dined twice at Fischkueche. We found the staff to be terrific and the Dover sole out of the world. Good luck. Gradyghost
