Can Anyone Recommend a Company Offering Tours of Verdun and its Battlefields?

Hello,

We plan on visiting Verdun as a day trip from Metz (or Nancy) in May. We would like to include:
Fort de Douaumont, the Ossuaire de Douaumont the Memorial de verdun and it would be excellent to see Fort de Vaux or Fermont as well.

However we will not be renting a car. As such we wonder if a tour will be the only way to visit these sites. We are also open to bike rental if there is an easy shop....or to hiking if the area is not too wide spread.

Any ideas?

Thank you,

MollyB

The battle sites are quite spread out over many miles, and I would not recommend a bike or hiking -- the country is quite hilly. You might check with Verdun's chamber of commerce (syndicat d'initiatif). We dropped by there and obtained lots of information, including maps. Today I suspect they have a web site.

Thanks USNR! I will look for that website.

I'll float this up to the top to see if I can catch someone whos tried a tour too.

Cheers,

Molly

Molly, there are two Verdun guides mentioned on Paul Reed's website: Christina Holstein and Ingrid Ferrand. Not sure whether either would supply transportation, but it might be worth an enquiry. Here's the link to the Reed website; just page down halfway:

I was recently at Verdun and wrote a trip report about it. It's here:
