Can Anyone Receommend a Good Tour Guide in London?

Not for me, but I have friends who are looking for a superlative London guide to take their grown children around for a couple of days to orient them to the major sites and areas of London.

All suggestions greatly appreciated.

We just returned from London - 3 days in the first week of March - we have 4 young adult children. It doesnt take much time to get oriented. Basically, we used 2 items to get around on our own: a London map of major sites, a London underground tube map, and a 3-day tube pass. They loved the following: Tate Modern museum, Tower of London Castle, Changing of the Guard, Portobello and Camden Lock outdoor markets on Saturday, and, finally, a good Pub

In my Rick Steve's Germany and Austria book, he gives the names of some individual guides for Vienna. There may be the same recommendation in his London/England book. Worth a check...

Look for someone with Blue Badge Guide certification. There are the elite, and they are very well trained. While their knowledge is broad, they do specialize in certain areas. For more see http://www.blue-badge.org.uk/

Our Welsh tour guide had a doctorite in British studies, he travels all over the UK for private tours.

His name is Mike Davies, can't say enough good things about him. We'll be using him again for our tour this year starting in Manchester and traveling south to London. Spent 10 days on a private tour w/him last year.
