can anybody recomend inexpensive places to eat in Prague and Vienna
 

Hi, we are family of 4 going to Prague and Vienna for 4 days in each city. Can anybody recommend inexpensive places to eat? Maybe anybody knows not touristy places but where locals eat?

If you head south from Prague's old town into new town (nove mesto)closer to the Vysehrad, you'll find that the restaurant prices are about half the price of those in old town (or cheaper).

Vienna: near Westbaunhof, the Centimeter (known for its 39" long wurst)

Tell us where you will be staying so we may be able to suggest places that are somewhat close. You don't want to go anywhere too far only because that's cheap.

In Prague we are staing in the New town. In Vienna - somewhere in the center( I am not familiar with Vienna at all). Is there some special food that we MUST try there?I unedrstand we should try wurst in Austria and pig knuckle in Prague.
What else?

McDonalds, seriously, fill that demand exactly in both towns

One very simple & cheap place to eat in Vienna is Buffet Trzesniewski on Dorotheergasse right off the famous square/street Graben. It's in an alley immediately south of the Plague tower. The place looks like a small dark soup kitchen with just a few small marble tables. I tried the place because some guidebooks mention the fact that Franz Kafka used to live next door and often ate there. They only sell open half sandwiches (0.90 euro each). I ordered 4 different ones, mushed egg, spinach,seafood & finely chopped ham & egg. All of them tasted OK, good enough for snacking with wine. They also serve beer & fruit juices.

One place that's a must visit is the historical Cafe Central. You will appreciate the mosaic ceiling arches and collumns. Food is OK, but you'll be impressed by the large choices of dessert.

Another famous bakery/restaurant in Vienna is Julius Meinl in Graben.
