can 3 adaults an a baby get a first class sleeper?
we are 3 adults and a baby travelling in europe. We would like to take an overnight train from nice to paris AND paris to rome and are wondering if we can take a 1st class sleeper for 4. Is there such a thing?

I think 1st class sleepers come in 1 or 2 beds, but you could just reserve 2. You'll find approx. prices and other info at:
www.euraide.de

We took a 1st class sleeper from Paris to Genova, Italy. There are two "bunk beds." It is very small. You could probably put a baby with you, but not another adult. You can get two cars, or maybe you should purchase couchette tickets. I haven't done this, but I think it is 2nd class and has 6 to 8 beds in a car. Take care, KK

If the baby will fit in a carrier on the floor or in a berth with the smallest adult you do not pay for him or her. On the Paris to Rome train there are first class two berth sleeper compartments and second class three and four berth sleeper compartments. On the Nice to Paris train second class compartments take two, so you could book two of those. Or you could book a four berth first class couchette compartment. The train has no three berth sleepers nor couchettes.

There is a note on getting the best from sleepers and couchettes on http://www.twenj.com/tipsnighttrains.htm

Please write if I can help further.

Ben Haines, London
