If there any benefit to changing at the flegrei station? the earlier train stops there....

in other words is it an easier connection..any differance from the centrale

it's rome to pompeii- but the time I'm interested in changes in campo flegrei...I havent read about anyone changing there .....
others have said it is an easy change in the centrale ..I have no idea about the other one ...is it safer? smaller? easier? does it matter where it is going?
.....I read a post from Jan 2005 by Dagmar that he he took a direct train to pompeii. he said he took the train there to pompei and then went to Naples and took the late train back to rome but it is not listed on the Trenitalia site which I find strange

If you're travelling to the main line station in the modern town of Pompei, change wherever the Trenitalia web site says you should change. If you want the ruins, you need to get the Circumvesuviana train from Napoli Centrale (or Piazza Garibaldi) to Pompei Scavi, so there's no reason to go to Campi Flegrei station.

I'm not going to the ruins going to the town and trenitalia says the 9:30 train stops in the campo feligei staion so I must stop there unless I go later,,...cant be any clearer sorry..I just wanted to hear from someone who changed there I have heard from people that changed at the centrale.thanks for responding I do appreciate it

The Circumvesuviana starts/ends at the Naples Centrale station. The Campo Flegrei station is on the opposite side of Naples from Centrale. The route you seem to be considering would be: Rome Termini to Campo Flegrei, change to Napoli Centrale, change to Circumvesuviana.

This will take longer than a direct train from Termini to Napoli Centrale, change to Circumvesuviana, even if the connection time at Campo Flegrei is short. I've never taken this train from Rome, but it may (repeat: may) provide more coastal views.

From your latest post, it sounds like you're trying to do a day-trip from Rome to Pompei and back to Rome. Therefore, you've selected the earlier train from Rome to Naples thinking it will maximum your day.

But you should look at this at the arrival end rather than the departure end. A train leaving Rome later than 9:30 a.m. might actually get you to your final destination (Pompei) earlier than the 9:30 a.m. train to Campo Flegrei.

Or am I still not understanding your plan?

I said nothing about the Circumvisuviana.The Circumvesuviana is not the only wasy to Pompeii.I am taking state train to POMPEI the city not the excavations......I can go 10:30 and change in the centrale or try to go earlier (it might be tough to eat and get to which has a change in Campo Flegrei ) if it means the change would be less confusing ...that's all..No I'm not going for the day but of course going earlier would give me more opportunutues for the day..I was womdering is anyone had any comments about this staion and since there does not seem to be an answer I will assume it's the same or easier let's hope....thanks

Sorry my answer was so dense, but I truly wasn't sure what your question was. I think the Campo Flegrei station is smaller than Centrale (I've only seen it from the outside) and that would, in theory, make it less confusing (at least to me, although Centrale is very easy).

Do you know what the connecting time is? Anything less than 12-15 minutes means you will have to move quickly if there is a track change involving stairs/tunnels. Track changes at Centrale only involve walking to the station end of the track and then back down the connecting train's track. I just don't know how Campo Flegrei is arranged.

Jean exactly...and you know everyone usually does the centrale and circum. It's the most popular choice but I'm bucking the tourist system and taking a chance...so unless I can find out I'll just have to take a chance..I am wondering about the section of town...however what could be more "colorful" or exciting than the centrale.... I felt uncomfortable at the Gare de Nord in Paris the first time but after I was familiar with it I was good with it and enjoyed a band concert there...well i'll let you all know

Well, I was intrigued, so I looked at a map to see where the Campo Flegrei station is. Now I'm not sure whether we drove past it. We drove a car from Naples along the water to Isola di Nisida, then through Pozzuoli to Cuma and inland in a bit of a circle back to Naples. I can see that we passed by or near several stations: Pozzuoli (there are 2 there), Cuma, Licola, and Quarto to name a few of the presumably larger ones. Not sure where your station is. Pozzuoli is a bit grim, but the rest of the Campi Flegrei was fine.

The station is Napoli Campi (not "Campo") Flegrei. It is in the districts of Napoli called Posillipo and Fuorigrotta. It is a little way inland from the Isola di Nisida.
There are two routes for trains from Roma to Napoli: via Pozzuoli, Campi Flegrei, Mergellina to Napoli Piazza Garibaldi, or via Aversa to Napoli Centrale. The Piazza Garibaldi station is beneath the square in front of Napoli Centrale.
