Camping in Paris

Am interested if anyone has used Bois du Boulogne camp ground as there base for touring Paris without a car. If so how did you like it? How difficult was it to get to downtown Paris? Any suggestions?
Merci,
GaryH

It depends on when you are going. In summer this camp is a zoo. I stayed there one August and it was tent pole to tent pole and the WCs were filthy. Other times it may not be so bad. Great location, a few miles from Arc de Triomphe - buses go right from camp to nearby metro/RER station. TCF's other Paris camp, at Joinville-le-Pont is much nicer and roomier; it's a half-mile, with shuttle buses, to the Joinville-lePont RER line A station.

I'm curious about the predominant nationalities of the other campers. Any thoughts? Were there a lot of children?

Thanks for the response.
If we stay there it would be Sept 17 thru 20. We are camping & biking in Provence prior to returning. Did you find it convient to get to the various downtown Paris sights or should we just pay for a hotel? Any suggestions on cheap clean hotels in the central area?
Do you think that there other sight would be more convient to central Paris?
Merci,
GaryH

Both camps attract lots of families with young kids and lots of young backpackers from many countries, especially Germans, Dutch and Italians - I camped at the joinville camp with my young son and enjoyed the diversity. I supposed in Sep you'll find less families; both camps clear out remarkable after Sep 1. The Joinville camp is a more established year-round camp; Bois Boulogne I think is more ramshackle - but it's a close to Paris sights as many hotels; Joinville more remote but in a nice neighborhood with RER-A trains taking only 20 minutes into town. the Joinville site actually has small chalets you can rent out.
