Camping in france???

My friend and I would like to visit France next summer. We don't want to spend a lot of money so we think that we can go camping. Does France have a lot of camping ground? Is it expensive? Does France have a lot of camping ground? I't little question that I would like to know their answer!!!

Funny you should ask that question. I just happened to find a couple sites yesterday that intrigued me.
one is <www.campeoles.fr/camping/>
The other is <www.les-castels.com/>
I pulled up a couple in the south of France on the coast of the Med. Sea. They looked very nice, indeed, and were fully equipped--kitchens, bedding, etc. I'm interested in them myself. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get to them without a car. We don't like to drive in Europe and go by train or bus. If you find out anything please let me know. Thanks, DJ

Here's a general French tourist site with a lot of
good information, espec. on hostels, and it has
a section on camping: www.gaf.tm.fr

Yes, France has a lot of park/camping area. But,
based on what you said, this doesn't seem very
feasible. It sounds like you want to camp mainly
because you think it will be a cheap bed, not
because you really want to camp. Most campgrounds
are, of course, in rural areas, not in or near the
major cities a tourist would want to see. The built-up
ones with cabins, elec., showers, washers/dryers, etc.
are like resorts and would prob. be more expensive
than a hostel. If you just want cheap accommodations,
go to a hostel, they are only about 100-120FF per
day (about US$20).
We stayed in Airotel Caravaning International
78600 Maisons Laffitte, Paris
Tel. No. (1)962.43.27

They are located in Maison Laffitte on the Seine River. You can walk to the railroad station for Paris. Great showers and secure. We rented an RV and took the train (SNCF) into Paris everyday for a week, it was great. They rent tents and equipment too.

regards,
Gene
