Campania: Arte Card

Campania: Arte Card
Anyone used it?
I will be in Amalfi/Naples/Pompeii area for 4 days so it looks like a good deal. I know it covers trains, buses, and entrance fees.
Is it too good to be true for 28 euro?

Hi K,

It's a very good buy if you are going to the places covered by the entrance fees and will be using the trains and buses. :)

We did not find it worthwhile for our 3-day stay.

There is also a Naples version that cost 13 euros for 3 days.

In addition to admission, you get discounts on audio tours and gift shop purchases.

well here's my schedule rundown---
i will be in naples one day- via ferry from palermo. i plan on vivisdting the Nat. Mus. and whatever else i have time for. Then thats same afternoon, i take a train/bus to Amalfi. Stay in Amalfi for 3 nights using buses. And one day take a train/bus to Pompeii, maybe Herculaneum. Then train/bus it back to Rome- via Naples.
SO, i can get the 7 day pass which is only $4 more than the 3. BUT i will really only be using it on 2 entrances (if i have time, then more). My main thing is- will it be worth it for the transportation?
I figure trains will cost $10 total w/ out the card.
I am not sure about the buses.

We used the seven-day pass in June. I might be wrong about this, but I believe that particular one covers admissions only - no transportation. We used it for about five admissions, and I think it was pretty much about break even; however, the convenience of having it vs. cash was worth a bit, too.

We bought it on our trip in May. It would have been highly useful except we later discovered that we were visiting during Cultural Week and all the sights (including Pompeii) were free. However... much of the proceeds go toward preservation of the historic treasures in the area so I am happy to have contributed.

i think i will get the 3 or 4 day pass. it covers transportation plus a few admissions and discounts on the rest.
i am mostly wondering if anyone used it for the transportation and if it was worth the price for that ???

TexasAggie Aug 19th, 2005 08:24 AM

We used it for transportation. We rode the Circumvesviana several times (to Naples a couple times, to Pompei, to Sorrento, etc.) It is also good for the SITA buses that go around Sorrento and between all the Amalfi Coast towns. We **think** it would have been good for our train trip from Naples to Paestum but we weren't sure so we bought tickets (only 5€ each way).

You can also use it on the Naples Metro and any of the Naples buses.

The only bus it didn't work for was the little intercity bus that goes from one end of Positano to the other. But that ticket is only 1€

Thanks for your help TexasAggie-
I think i will get it. At least i should break even with the cost.

TexasAggie, I didn't think the SITA buses ran to the AC towns like Paestum, Amalfi and so on...I thought they were private bus companies.

Is that correct?

TexasAggie Feb 7th, 2006 07:35 AM

Paestum is not an Amalfi Coast town, but the Arte Card's transportation feature is good on all regional transportation (Circumvesuviana commuter train, SITA buses, Naples Metro and city buses, regional trains, etc.) We were fairly certain that the train from Naples to Paestum qualified as a regional train (Campania region only), but as we couldn't get a clear answer from the Trenitalia official we decided to just buy the tickets anyway as they were so cheap.

SITA buses run between Sorrento, Positano, Praiano, Atrani, Ravello, Amalfi, and maybe a couple other towns. The Arte Card covers travel on these buses. The local bus that runs from one side of Positano to the other is NOT covered by the Arte Card but the fare is only 1€
