We are planning a trip on the Portuguese camino. Does anyone know an inexpensive place to stay in ether Castelo Neuva or Chafe? I'm having trouble contacting Casa do Campo do Forno, which is where I wanted to stay. Also, is there a tourist office in the area who could help us?

You might tag your thread here with Portugal, since many people assume you are asking about Spain when discussing the Camino. I have done the Spain portion only, but there is a website with helpful information on many of the Caminos.

Most of western Europe has "Camino", just some are more famous than others

Castelo Novo? We have stayed several times at Pedra Novo. The trail goes in front of it, right across from the castle that gives the town it's name (12th century castle was the new one!).

Miguel, the owner, is an interior designer and spent 5 years renovating the centuries old family home. Heading back in 2 months. Fresh homemade bread, great coffee, banana/apple smoothies for breakfast, a lot to like.

The Pedra Nova looks so nice! I've added it to my bookmarks for a future trip, so thanks!

It really is special. We stayed both times in upstairs suite, it has views of the old church or the castle, depending on which window you look out. Our first stay, we were coming from rare snow in the mountains, so nice to have the wood stove going in our room!

Lastly, did you notice the donkeys in review pictures? Miguel took us down to feed the Momma and baby, the baby was maybe 10 days old. The next year's visit, Momma, Dad and the now one year old donkey family were back together in the larger paddock. They are favorites of the hikers who are on the trails that pass by...tranquil spot.
