Camargue region of France

A few weeks ago we were in Provence and decided to take a look at the Camargue Area. We went to Aigues-Mortes and then on to Grau-des-Roy. We had a lovely day, a great meal and good memories.
It was rather a pleasant surprise as this area is almost never mentioned and we had not originally planned a visit.
Anyone have any thoughts on this part of Provence?

I love the Camargue, have been there several times. Once we stayed in Aigues-Mortes(dead waters) 'If it is dead,"said Henry james,"it is very neatly embalmed." and another time in Sambuc and other times day trips. We love the funky restaurant Chez JUJU on the beach in Beauduc, a favorite of ther Gypsy Kings. try the apertif, "Camarguise". If you have seen the film, "A man and a Woman"you saw scenes in the Camargue when they were on horse back.
The Camargue is pink=Flamingoes
Black=the bulls
White= the wild horses

Aigues-Mortes is on the list for our next visit to France. I'm looking forward to it, because it is a medieval walled city (the one on the fleur de sel boxes from Les Salins du Midi), and it has a very interesting history.

Just a very general observation. Most North Americans are unwilling to go off the beaten track or too lazy to research. It's a pity really, because a little reading enriches your visit immeasurably.

P.S. buy a burlap bag of the famous Camargue rice.

We loved Aigues-Mortes. I loved all the little shops inside the castle walls. We stayed on our boat in the Marina. We rented a boat from the Crown Blue Line. We were on it for 1 week. I loved every minute of it and would use them again.
