Calling on Paris Metro experts
 

We have four adults travelling to Paris Charles de Gaulle airport at around 2pm. We have 3 small 14 inch luggages and one 18 inch luggage. We decided to take the RER to our apartment in Rue Git-le-Coeur near the St Michel station. Should we do our transfer from RER at Chatelet Les Halles to Les Halles then St Michel? Or do the direct transfer from St Michel Notre Dame to St Michel?
Which is a shorter and less confusing transfer route to Rue Git?

Another option for us is to take a taxi but I do not know if a taxi will take four adults plus luggage. However,I figured that taking the RER is the most economical way, any suggestions?

Direct to St-Michel would be best. People have been lost in Chatelet for months at a time.

StCirq--I bust out laughing at your reply. As soon as GoPlanB said "Chatelet" I had a mental flashback to the m-i-l-e-s of correspondances encountered in past visits.

No transfer is necessary, as any decent map will show.

I agree with Robespierre, you are not understanding the situation. There is no reason to transfer to the metro if you get out at St Michel. The St Michel metro stop and St Michel RER stop are obviously very close together, and about the same location. You can't ride any form of transportation between the St Michel RER stop and the St Michel metro stop.

I have another RER question. I had hoped we could ride the RER from CDG to our apartment in the 5th on rue Rollin. I asked the owner about the distance from the Luxembourg station, and she said it would be a 15 to 20 min. walk (with luggage this would be a little far). Is there a taxi stand close to the Luxembourg station?

The other option the owner suggested was to get off at Chatelet and take Metro Line 7 to Place Monge which is very close to the apartment. But after reading the above posts on Chatelet, I'm wondering if we would be walking a long distance (with stairs, etc.) at Chatelet. Any other suggestions? Other ideas? Thanks!

You would indeed have a long distance to cover for the connection at Châtelet, but most of it is handled by moving walkways and escalators.

I would not consider it to be a problem.

It would be a lot easier actually, as Kerouac says, to do the transfer at Châtelet. I think you'd do 2 people movers to get to line 7, which is rather opposite the RER exit into the metro station. However, if you did Luxembourg, it would entail hills and cobblestony streets as you'd have to go round the Panthéon to get to rue rollin

Thanks kerouac and Sheepie87! Guess it would be doable after all with moving walkways and escalators. Just trying to cut costs on taxis, etc., where we can.

Another possibility you should investigate is what bus lines connect the RER with your hotel street. Bus rides cost 1.50&euro; singly, or 1.11&euro; if you buy <i>le carnet</i> of 10, and require zero climbing. My bus advice is here: fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?tid=34987572

Thanks, Robes. I did as you suggested, and it looks as though we could take Line 47 Bus from St Michel RER (Petit Pont), and get off on Cardinal Lemoine with only a two minute walk to the apartment. That sounds like a good solution!
