Calling Home--Best way?

What is the best way to call the US from Europe (Switzerland & Netherlands)? Are there prepaid calling cards? Do you set up an account with AT&T or Sprint in advance?

I have found the prepaid cards available in each country to be the least expensive and the easiest method to call home. In most countries you will need one anyway just to get a dial tone. I buy a card worth $5 or $10. When I call home I let the person know I'm using a prepaid card and the call may have to end abruptly. The phones have a dial that counts down on the "money left." You can keep an eye on that and know when it is time to say good bye.

The cheapest place I have found to by prepaid calling cards is Costco.

We plan on taking several trips this year so I upgraded my current cell phone to a T28 World phone. It works in the US and in Europe. Air time is a little pricey but I can receive calls in case of an emergency at home as well as make them from just about any where
