Calling Europe

Im trying to fax to europe and keep getting a busy signal. Im dialing 00133... Any help would be great!

SiobhanP Mar 9th, 2004 02:42 AM

Try 011 33 and the number

paula5 Mar 9th, 2004 02:52 AM

That ressulted in a busy signal as well. I just tried looking in the forum under calling europe and used 1016868...I hope that is right-I don't want my credit card number where it doesn't belong! Yikes!

Are you dropping the first zero in the actual phone number. You should be.
Often I have found that Europeans have the same phone and fax lines . One I dealt with recently only had her fax open at night.
Hope this helps.

I thought to call another country you had to dial 001? Thanks for the advice. I sent an e-mail to the hotel to see if they received my fax. I sure hope so!

SiobhanP Mar 9th, 2004 03:19 AM

If all else fails call the international operator and give her what you think the number should be and she will patch through for you.

Riffic Mar 9th, 2004 03:35 AM

From the US, to call Europe you must dial 011 then the country code, then the city code, then the number.

Sometimes, there will be a zero between the country and city codes, often listed as "(0)", which means most times you leave it out when dialing from outside that country (In Italy, you include this 0, I think). For France, you also leave out this 0, if you see it. If the line is busy, that doesn't mean you're dialing incorrectly. The fax machine might be down temporarily.

The '001' is the country code for the USA when calling from outside the USA (it takes the place of dialing the 1 before the area code).

how do i find the city code for nice? Im really nervous about sending that fax using the "1016868" number-then i dialed 33 and their number.

grimmy Mar 9th, 2004 03:55 AM

dial 011 33 the next number should be a 4 (not 04)and then the rest of the phone number.

Cicerone Mar 9th, 2004 04:00 AM

Country and city code for Nice is 33-4. So from the US it would be 011-33-4 and then the rest of the number.

ira Mar 9th, 2004 04:05 AM

Hi Paula,

You should be dialing 1016868 011 33 4 then the number.

paula5 Mar 9th, 2004 04:10 AM

thank you so much-I am so late for work! Ira- if i faxed my card through without the city code do you think they got it? Im going to call right now.

JonJon Mar 9th, 2004 04:13 AM

This is ridiculous! Why don't you just E-MAIL the credit card number and details and forget about this hassle with your fax..which isn't any more secure than the e-mail....you can always divide the credit card details between two e-mails.

ira Mar 9th, 2004 04:15 AM

Hi Paula,

It's unlikely that the call went through without the city card.

paula5 Mar 9th, 2004 04:20 AM

I called and made my reserveation. My only problen is where did the fax go to- i have a verifation report-so it had to go somewhere no? Thanks again for all your help.

ira Mar 9th, 2004 05:20 AM

Hi Paula,

Does the verification report give you the phone number that was called?

paula5 Mar 9th, 2004 07:21 AM

Ira-yes it did. What i think i did was use that 6868 number then the fax number with the country code (not the city number) Should we call the bank?

ira Mar 9th, 2004 08:14 AM

hi paula,

your record should tell you that you faxed to 1016868011 cc fg hi jk

where cc is the new country code
fg is the new city code

Go to http://kropla.com/dialcode.htm to see which country you dialed.

I can't see how the call went through since you were missing 2 numbers.

Ira-sorry im so late replying back to this post....guess where my fax went???? US navy in Ohio! A very nice man called and informed he had the fax and shredded it over the phone. He called my house twice, but left no message. That's it for me- the fax machine is gone! I did well with the numbers you gave me and my plans are intact for hotels in Nice and Vencie. I was able to get La calcina in Venice. Thanks for all your help- I was about to lose my mind that morning!
