Calling England

I need to call England and I have a number...
But I am not sure exactly how to do it...
Can someone please help me out!?

Double check your number as all the ones I've called are 10 digits after the country code (44) for England. I also use 011 but for you it may depend your long distance carrier. I know you have to do alot of digging to find directions for placing international calls in your local phone book, at least I found it to be a problem. Good luck. Deborah

If you're calling from the US, you need to preface with 011 and drop the 0 after the 44. Try 011 44 247 661 222. Are you missing a digit? Check your number again. Most English phone numbers have 10 digits.

But your number's wrong.

Coventry area phones are 024 followed by eight, not seven, digits. In 1999 these numbers were changed from 01203 followed by six digits to 024 76 followed by the same six digits.

There's a digit missing. Go to www.bt.com to check the number

If it's the Ansty Hall Hotel, you want 024 7661 2222

To the best of my knowledge, all UK phone numbers, wheb dialled long distance or internationally, have 10 digits after the 0.

The number of digits dialled as a local number can vary (it's 8 in London and - bizarrely - some smaller cities, 7 in the bigger cities and 6 in small towns and most rural areas) But it's always +10 digits nationally, access code+44+10 digits internationally.

flanneruk, for whatever reason when we call England from the US we are instructed to drop the 0 found after the Country Code of 44. Guess that means that for us there are no phone numbers that start with 0 in England. PS Tentative? I think not :-D Deborah

The last time I dialed direct to England it cost me over $10 (my long distance is through ATT and I don't have a special international plan). Since then I used a 101 number. This past month I made two calls to London box offices using the number. The calls were both between five and six minutes long. I just got my phone bill. Those two calls together cost me a total of 59 cents (billed at 4.9 cents per minute, no minimum and no access charge.

So if you want to save some money dial it this way:
101-6400-011-44-24-7661-222
(or whatever you extra missing digit is).

Thanks Everyone I finally got through. I had the right number just didnt type it correctly in my email. I was missing the O11 country code.

Flanneruk, you were right it is the Ansty I was trying to call.

Patrick. I will try that if I have to call again.. Unfortunatly I probably already incurred about $30 worth of charges, since I called twice!
