Calling all Scots-Inverness or no

Looking to re-schedule my trip a bit. Now thinking of taking the bus from Oban,on March 19, to Inverness. It's only about a 3 hour ride and would arrive around noon. My question is it a worthwhile place to have a short visit? Thinking of taking a mid-day train the next day to Edinburgh and after that back to London. So, whats to see or do. Any suggestions would be appricated. Thanks.

I think that the journey to and from Inverness, with the stunning scenery you should, see is the big thing. If you stay overnight in Inverness, my "don't miss" suggestion would be Culloden Field, which is a little to the east of Inverness. This is the site of a long ago battle between the Scots and the English, in which hundreds of Scots were killed. It's a very emotional place.

Not afan of Inverness per se, Roger. But Barbara's comments are spot on

You will see more scenery going via Glasgow, (mountains stop just outside) its more interesting than Inverness & nearer to Edinburgh. Also you have a choice of bus/train.

Roger - go there, I don't think you will regret it.

Thanks all. I will add Inverness. Now all I hope for is the hoof and mouth problem to be solved. So here is my final schedule. London to Carlisle, Carlise to Glasgow via Troon,Glasgow to Oban, Oban to Inverness, Inverness to Edinburgh and then Edinburgh to London. Leaving SFO on the night of March 13 and returning March 22. I will keep an eye out for blue ribbons.
