California to Nice?

Can you get there from here?I'd like to rent a car and drive to Tuscany.
any clues? thanks

George,
Sure you can but wait for winter to set in, then drive up the Pacific coast through Alaska to the frozen Bering Strait (bring tire chains) then off to Siberia and work your way southwest.
If you want to fly: Go to Paris and catch the connection to Nice. Not too tough to do. A boat takes a little longer. Nice is close to Italy, but be sure you are covered on insurance for driving in Italy. It is different that France. From another Californian that flew from here to Nice....

John ..if you're trying for comedy you need a new writer
vanessa Aug 13th, 1999 06:54 PM
Sorry george, but the way you worded your post, it did sound like you were the one "trying" to be funny.

Bob Aug 14th, 1999 03:48 PM

Yeah, George. I agree. The post was kinda silly.

Bob Brown Aug 14th, 1999 05:41 PM

George, would you rephrase the question?
Otherwise, it reminds of the old joke where the punch line is "You can't there from here."

French charter airline Corsair has very good fares between Oakland or LAX and Paris--as low as $398rt in off-season. See www.corsair-int.com

Just two anecdotes : when I flew back from LA to Paris last May, the plane was full of studio executives going to the Cannes festival. Obviously, those people might have had good connections to fly to Nice from CDG. And, yes, there used to be a direct flight Nice-LA, but this was ten years ago, when the then mayor of Nice, Jacques Médecin, was married to an American woman, and used to do a lot of "business" in California. Business that led him to jail, to flee France, and to die, last year, in exile in Uruguay. But those days are over, and the flight disappeared with the mayor.
