California gift for British friend?

I am meeting a guy in London who I've known through work for over seven years but never yet met, and I'd like to bring him something California as a gift. I'd love to bring my favorite wine, Yorkville Petit Verdot, but unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to carry it (got the baby stuff for my daughter taking up all luggage space). What else would be a good gift? He's 32 and single, with a girlfriend of 8 years and a house of his own.

So whatever you take has to be smaller than a bottle of wine? That is pretty limiting. I can't think of anything that pertains to calif. that is small and unusual. Maybe a gift from the calif. redwoods. where do you live?

Monica, how about a book with gorgeous pictures, either of the state generally or of the area in which you live. It doesn't have to be huge.

If a book is too heavy, how about a calendar with 12 beautiful views of California?

Ghiradelli chocolate and cocoa.

Cool California state flag (bear, red star, "California Republic")

Dodgers, Giants or 49ers (or USC or Berkeley or UCLA) caps or jersies? Fresh tortillas? Trashy Hollywood T-shirts? Cool sunglasses from Venice Beach? Mexican hot chocolate? How about taking a copy of Sunset magazine and offering them a subscription if they like it (I did that for some British friends and they got a kick out of it.)

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. I think the calendar idea will work best. It's such a bummer about the wine but carrying something fragile and heavy for a week doesn't seem like the smartest idea. So a wine country calendar will have to suffice.
