Calanque de Morgiou
 

We'll be near Marseille in early September and would like to hike to Calanque de Morgiou, Calanque de Sugiton etc. I understand the road to Morgiou is closed in the summer, until September 15.

How close can we drive to Morgiou so we can hike these calanques?

I have hiked to the Calanque of Morgiou twice. Last time was 2 years ago. I took a bus No.22 (I think) at Prado to the end of the line, "Baumette" stop. If you are driving you can do the same route and go a little farther than the bus stop. There are a couple of parking areas. From Baumette stop to Morgiou, the walk up to the top of the pass (Col de Renard ? I'm not sure)is about 30 minutes (or less) including a very steep road just before reaching the pass. If you go down the road straight after the pass, it will get you to the port village of Morgiou. My French colleague says when her husband was young he used to go there camping. When the route is open for non residents car traffic, you can drive up to the pass and leave the car. For the hiking trails to the calanque and the cap of Morgiou, at the pass you take the path that goes to the right, towards the sea. To the tip of the cap will be around 1 - 1,5 hrs.

I will be in the area 11 - 14 September with my 2 lady friends, 2 nights in Cassis and 1 night in Marseille. With them I will probably do easier ones, Sugiton from Marseille and Port-Pins (and if possible En-Vau) from Cassis.

Good, you will be in Cassis too. Then naturally you should do En-Vau. They say it's the most beautiful one. I did it twice each time in the afternoon on the litoral trail and saw beautifully coloured Cap Canaille before sunset like this.

Reaching the beach of En-Vau was a bit of extra work. I'm hoping my lady friends can follow me in September (they are not super sporty). Till Port-Pins, that's no problem at all. Also the hiking up to the cap Canaille was worth for the view of the bay of Cassis.

Stunning photos kappa! Thanks for sharing them. Hiking out of Cassis in the afternoon will suit our plans! We're not staying in Marseille or Cassis, but in a gite. We'll be there on day trips.
