Calabria in Italy- worth visiting?

Has anyone been to Calabria, the toe of Italy? Read about a great place to stay there but I'm wondering if the area is worth a visit?

Calabira may be the most underrated and least visited areas of Italy. Many of the beaches are pristine and empty and you will find less expensive accomadations than in the north. In many ways Calabria is a different world from Central and Northern Italy, in fact, in alot of ways it is what Italy was before post WW II industrialzation. I live in Florence but have family in Calabria and travel there frequently. If you want more thoughts, please write to me.

I too would like to visit Calabria. Has anyone heard of a small village called "San Ferdinando"?
