"Cafe de la Pay," Paris
Yeah, I know, it's "Paix."
I renamed it after paying €8 for an after-dinner chocolate chaud. But sitting across from the Opera Garnier, beautifully lit, on a warm evening, it was worth it. |
To pay the highest café prices in Paris, my other recommendation is Fouquet's.
They should have charged you even more for ordering a chocolat chaud after dinner.
Le Flandrin in the 16th is up there, too. I think they want €6 for an espresso on the terrace.
If you want to occupy a prime location, you have to pay the rent.
Think of about €1.00 as the price of a coffee, and anything over that as the rental of the place you occupy in order to drink it. |
I'm sure it was worth it ! And if you are tired of walking..there are few better ways to have a rest than sipping a drink with such a view ;)
I've had a glass of wine there that was cheaper than that, I think. IN fact, I thought it was fairly reasonable given the hotel and location, since it was only a little more expensive than a lot of regular cafes.
We had afternoon tea there a couple of years ago, and while it was expensive, the setting is just so beautiful to me it was worth it. Plus, you can linger there for as long as you want!
After several days in Amsterdam, my first 5.50 euros coffer was a bit of reminder where I was : an elegant spot in the most fabulous city !
in Paris, of course!

One of my (many) favorite Paris memories:
My husband and I enjoying a glass of wine there while watching Paris in the rain. The black raincoats, black umbrellas, mist and rain were like an old photograph. Beautiful! Byrd |
