Caetano Veloso?!
I just saw the movie "Talk To Her" and the most beautiful singer was in it, Caetano Veloso. I would love to travel to hear more music like this. Is it in Spain?
|
I agree, it's wonderful music, though I haven't seen the film. It's Brazilian.
|
Who is it? What movie is this?
|
To those who have just discovered Caetano Veloso, I highly recommend his 1997 release, "Livro" ("book" in Brazilian). It includes a booklet with an excerpt from Caetano Veloso's book "Verdade Tropical" (Tropical Truth), and English translations of all lyrics.
Although "Talk to her" is a spanish movie -the latest Almodovar film-, Caetano Veloso is actually brazilian. He's been around for a long time. I'm sure you can find his material in the U.S. If not, anywhere in South America and Europe.

Loved the movie, I thought it was shot in Spain though, but what is the meaning do you think?

Nina,
Immediately after seeing Almodóvar's "Talk to Her" in Oct., I ran over to B&N to order the soundtrack! Had to wait awhile, but it's now available in stores. I was completely captivated by the music.
The movie is fabulous (made all the NY Times critics' top 5 films of the year list) and the original score by Alberto Iglesias, who has won 5 Goya awards, Spain's Oscars, just wonderful too. Alberto Iglesias has collaborated before with Almodóvar on his "All About My Mother" , "Live Flesh" and "The Flower of My Secret".

I loved the evening outdoor scene with Caetano Veloso performing "Cucurrucucú Paloma". As Olga says, he's Brazilian, from Bahia. He has collaborated with Gilberto Gil. I have his CD, "Fina Estampa", which is my favorite, and "Livro". And yes, you can find his CD's in the US at Borders, B&N, many places.
I agree Nina. Caetano Veloso is a terrific singer/songwriter.

I loved that movie! And that song is hauntingly beautiful, now I want to run out and buy the soundtrack too. I hope it wins Best Foreign Film in Academy Awards too.
|
cruelbee,
Sadly, Spain didn't select "Talk to Her" as its entry for the Oscars Best Foreign Film nomination. Their academy chose "Los lunes al sol" instead (which hasn't opened yet in the US- may be an outstanding movie as well-I haven't seen it). But at least Talk to Her did win the Golden Globe for best foreign film. Yeah! I really recommend the soundtrack. Not only is the music hauntingly beautifully, as you say, I thought Javier Cámara's performance as Benigno was so sweet. He was wonderful to watch.

Maribel, Talk To Her was nominated for Best Screenplay written for the screen or something like that, so maybe it will win something after all.
To make this travel-related, it makes me want to visit Spain to hear the beautiful Spanish spoken.
I know some of the actors were not from Spain, but anyway...
