Cadiz

We're taking a cruise from Lisbon to Malaga that stops in Cadiz for an overnight and most of 2 days. Several years ago, we spent a couple of days in Seville on a more extensive trip to Spain. While we enjoyed Seville very much, we're looking for something else to do during our stopover in Cadiz. Any suggestions?

You don't say when this Cadiz stop will occur. Carnival in Cadiz (i.e., Sun-Tue preceeding Ash Wednesday) is said to be among Spain's most lively.

There's a ferry Cadiz-Puerto de Santa Maria: You could take that and tour Bodegas Osborne.
BTW
Is that cruise a regular run?? It sounds like something we might be interested in.

The web site for the boat from Cadiz to El Puerto de Santa Maria is www.vapordeelpuerto.com. The boat runs several trips a day for most of the year. You can also get to El Puerto from Cadiz by bus or train.

You can spend a nice day in Jerez visiting the Horse Riding School with show on Thursday and visit a winecellar , the best is Gonzalez and Byass.
Arcos de la Frontera or Ronda are not very far from Cadiz

Thanks to each of you for the great ideas. What a bummer that we'll miss Carnival in Cadiz...we'll be arriving there in the last week of April. Puerto de Santa Maria and wine touring sound like the plan for this part of our trip. NEDSIRELAND, in response to your question, the cruise is on Windstar's Wind Surf. The 7-day itinerary departs from Lisbon on April 23 with stops at Safi, Casablanca, Cadiz (overnight), Marbella and Malaga. The stops in Safi and Casablanca enable an overnight excursion to Marrakesh. Should be fun!

I've never been to Cadiz, but have been very attracted to it because it's the hometown of the incredible flamenco singer Cameron and is supposed to be a good flamenco venue. I'd certainly suggest checking this out.

One of my favorite white villages is not too far away--Vejar de la Fontera, which might make a nice daytrip.

Will be looking forward to your trip report--have a great time.

My Geography for that area is a little rusty but as I recall, Safi is closer to Marrakech than Casablanca. A better daytrip from Casablanca would probably be the royal city of Rabat.

I've been to Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakech (and many other places in Morocco) and I really prefer Rabat with Marrakech a close second. I don't know if the Hotel Mamounia is still in business in Marrakech, but if so, I recommend it.

SPAIN: There's a Feria de Primavera in el Puerto de Santa Maria but I don't know the dates. A lot of towns around there have Spring fairs in the weeks after Easter (Apr 16).

Thanks for the tips--especially on Morocco. I also posted a question the other day about Malaga. Any ideas on what to do/see there? We've already been to Granada and the Alhambra, so we want to experience something else there too.
