Cable Car near Lecco

Does anyone have any information about the cable car near Lecco, where you can go up to the Piani d'Erna? (I think bus #5 from the station takes you there).

I'm interested in stopping somewhere between Milan and Venice where we can get a nice view of the Alps. The above mentioned Piani d'Erna was a suggestion, however I'm having a hard time finding more information on it.

Is it open in December? How far of a bus ride is it from Lecco train station? Is there a place to store luggage in the Lecco train station?...

I welcome all comments and suggestions.

Does anyone know of a website where I can find this information?
All results of my searches cam up in Italian.

I'm leaving to Italy in less than a week and I would love to have this information.

Try this site for a start. I think it will help you.

I needed to rest my brain at work, so I did a quick search-and-translate. Here's what I found: The funivia (funicular) is open all year. It leaves from a small piazza in Versasio, a "frazione" (town on the outskirts) that is 6 km from Lecco center city, indeed reached by the #5 bus. It seems to start at around 8:40 am and, on the weekends at least, it runs about every half-hour. Lecco is a reasonably large town, so the station probably has a left luggage facility, though I don't know for sure. I hope this is a start, at least.

When I said "It seems to start..." I meant the funivia, not the bus. I don't know about the bus schedule.

Thanks that was really helpful.

You might also want to check out the response from the person who lives in/near Lecco on the current "Lake Como in January" thread. They list a website (for thmeslves) and might be able to provide even more particular information.
