Cab or private car CDG to St. Germain Hotel?
 

The last several times we arrived in Paris was by train so kind of forgot about airport arrival transfers.
Last June our hotel arranged a car (can’t remember which service) back to CDG for 55 Euros.

This Dec. we will arrive at CDG and go to Hotel on St. Germain.
Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Taxi Parisien. They are totally regulated and the prices are fixed now, so there's no guessing at what you'll pay.

I've taken the train from CDG into Paris and a cab can't remember the difference in prices - but we did get caught in car traffic so that might be a consideration depending on what time you will be on the road.

True, the RER is the fastest and cheapest, but I was never in a frame of mind after an all-night flight to get into commuter train traffic with my luggage...and then have to get to my hotel. It's true there can be traffic on the périphérique, and accidents, but now that you don't have to watch the meter it's not so bad.

Ditto St Cirq. Once the exit gates "ate" our luggage at the Gare du Nord.

So, in a normal taxi line all the prices are fixed? No need to hire a car at a fixed rate?
This will be on a Wed. Morning 10:30ish. We’re willing to do either, whatever is the easiest. We’re definitely into “easy.”

We have taken the RER. It’s efficient, but even with light luggage it’s a pain up & down the stairs & then a few blocks to the hotel when you get out.

Yes, you go to the "normal," official taxi rank. An attendant will put you in a taxi appropriately sized for your group and luggage. It will cost 50 euros to the Right Bank or 55 euros to the Left Bank, whether you spend an hour in the taxi or all day. It is BY FAR the easiest way to get into the city if you don't want to take the RER.

Best to confirm payment with cabbie? We've heard on this forum of some folks taken for a ride!

I've never heard of anyone being taken for a ride on this forum, but it never hurts to confirm the price of a taxi anywhere in the world.

Taxi it is. ...... We’ve never been to Paris in the winter and are looking forward to the Christmas displays. There was such a good deal on airfare and an apt. that we couldn’t pass it up even
though we were just there in June.

There was one a few weeks ago - a trip report where they paid 90 euros or so - driver said they had to detour due to traffic or something.. Always confirm the price - given above in this case and if higher just say no.

You must be careful to go to the taxi line. There are others trolling the terminal asking if you need a cab. Those might be the ones that charge more than the regulated amount. We have at times taken the Air France bus to Montparnasse and a cab from there to our St Germain hotel.
However you get there have a fabulous time!

AGM makes a valid point - do not get sidetracked by anyone inside the terminal who offers you a taxi. They are not legitimate. Taxi Parisien drivers are not allowed to go inside the terminal. Just proceed directly to the taxi stand (signs are all over; you'd be hard-pressed to miss it).

A month ago my flight landed at Charles de Gaulle after dark. It was fairly easy to find the official taxi queue, which seems to be more segregated from the open terminal than previously. That means better supervision and isolates the hustlers. I used a credit card, and felt that the money was well spent since it saved me from searching around for my hotel in the dark in a neighbourhood I did not know well.

When we land at CDG and take a taxi to our apt or hotel, we always print out the name and address of the destination in about 24 point font before we leave home & give it to the driver. On one of our trips this year, the taxi driver said that his credit card reader did not work - so we paid cash.

The vehicle taking this couple was NOT a taxi and had absolutely nothing to do with taxis. This was about a rogue driver who solicited passengers from within the terminal.

The airports now have signs everywhere warning about unlicensed drivers operating illegally. There are even videos at baggage claim, in a number of different languages, explaining the dangers.

Anyone at the airport who simply follows the signs to the official taxi pickup locations will never encounter this situation.

You and I fully understand this but this is an example of how unsuspecting tourists get sucked in.
