Cab from Siena to hotel--easy?
We're arriving in Siena via train from Florence on a Monday afternoon. How easy will it be to find a cab and get to our hotel? I don't want to look like the typical bumbling American tourist, standing there with our luggage, so I'd love some helpful travel hints and tips for not getting gouged by the cabbies.

You'll be standing there with your luggage, you're American...are you otherwise bumbling?
|
I feel like I would be bumbly, if I didn't know where to go for a cab, what to say, etc.
|
Two Ideas:
Have your hotel send a cab to meet the train--or, take the bus which drops you in town and may be closer to your hotel. |
Hi RunnerGirlGR,
There will be a taxi at the taxi stand outside the train station. |
People on this board have suggested that my experiences have been anomalous, but I have never had to wait for a cab outside a train station in Italy. There's always been one there and I've just hopped in.
As a backup plan, you could research the bus. |
Based on other reviews, the bus gets us pretty close to the hotel (Hotel Chiusarelli). Might go that route. Thanks all!

Runner,
As bob said the bus is a better option (faster, cheaper, and lets you off in town) see http://www.mega.it/ita/not/sita.htm If you take the train walk out the front door and go to your right and stand under the sign that says taxi. Henry |
You may want to do a little research to see how close the bus stop is to your hotel. If it's reasonable, I'd take the bus (assuming you don't have a ton of baggage).
I guess Pugsly woke up on the rock side of the rock. |
The hotel is a block from the bus stop and it is down hill.
