Cab from Dublin airport

What should a cab cost from the airport to our hotel (Westin)in central Dublin. Will have suitcases. Not interested in public transportation.

Not sure, but I remember that when we took the bus from the airport to the city center, traffic was terrible, so if you get into that it could be costly!

Here's a quote from my Lonely Planet Ireland guidebook: "Taxi passengers are subject to additional charges for baggage, extra passengers, bank holidays, and 'unsociable hours'. However, a taxi usually cost about E20 between the airport and the centre. There is a supplementary charge of E2.50 from the airport to the city, but this charge doesn't apply fom the city to the airport. Make sure the meter is switched on, as some Dublin Airport taxi drivers can be as unscrupulous as their brethren anywhere else in the world."

Last did it 2 years ago when we landed early in the AM. We took a cab to the Westbury and it was cheap - less than $25 with tip.

Twenty to Twenty firve would be my guess. Also I have lived here for 11 years and never had the hassle or got ripped off like I have in NY or Boston over the years. Taxi drivers are pretty honest here as an Irish person will give out stick to them if they tried to rip us off :-).

I would second the bus assessment. I could have walked faster, once in the city limits. Take a taxi to save the headache, especially from Dublin to the airport. Sad to read that the new tunnels haven't relieved the traffic problem, but most big cities share this negative aspect. Good fun

On July 12 we paid 30 Euro to go to Fitzwilliam hotel across from St. Stephens Green in Dublin. It was around 6:00PM. We then again went back to the airport 3 days later to pick up our rental car at 8:30 am and it also was 30 Euro. Hope this helps.

But it sure beats the 15 Euro it costs us to go 1.5 miles in London two weeks later! We were not lazy, buthad to many bags to navigate the London subway!

The Tunnels is not open yet in Dublin due to of course some more structural probs. Its only for trucks anyway whoch will not alleviate much in the airport area as it lets out before this. The trucks are the worst in the mornings when the Ferry at Dublin ports arrives with a boatful of them. I am usually stuck behind them most mornings on the Quays!

Well, Boston is having it's own problems with tunnels. So go the trials and tribulations of a major cosmopolitan city. Will I ever return to Dublin? I hope so
