How much should I expect to pay for a taxi to get from Davinci airport to Jolly Villa Carpegna Hotel? If my flight lands at 3:30PM, what time can I expect to get to the hotel if there are no delays with customs, etc? (I am assuming that we will go through customs in Rome even though we have a transfer in Amsterdam) If I arrange for transfer service between the airport and hotel would it be alot quicker? I know that it would be alot more expensive for two people. I don't know what time I would tell them to pick us up anyway.

For a private transfer all you need to tell them is the flight number and the expected arrival time; they'll wait for you.

A private transfer is nice but those cars don't get through the traffic any faster than taxis do.

We could have gotten transfers with our tour package, but the transfer wouldn't be until 6 and I think we will be ready to leave the airport much sooner than that. Is traffic worse between 4-6 like it is here? The tour leaves the hotel at 6 for dinner but I guess it is unlikely that we will be ready for that.

FYI, we did NOT have to go through customs on Rome but we did in Amsterdam. I believe the European Union has some type of agreement. Our flight landed at 9:25 AM and we were on our way out the door with our luggage by 10:15 AM. Our hotel arrangement for someone to pick us up and it was 47 Euro for the two of us.

Do you remember how much time it took to get to the hotel? I don't think our hotel is in the central part of the city.

It took about 30 minutes. We stayed about 2 blocks from the train station. Hope that helps. Andy has a good point.

Not sure whre the Jolly is, but to the Via Veneto area the fare is about 35 Euros. There is a taxi stand outside the arrivals terminals. To get a taxi, please by-pass the people standing INSIDE the terminal by the doors as you come out of the baggage claim area. They are wearing badges and will very politely ask you if you need a taxi, and if you say yes, they will direct you to the booking desk inside the terminal. However, the booking desk will charge you about twice the going rate. As I said, by-pass these people and go outside and look for the taxi stand. Taxis are metered.

A hotel car would not be much more expensive most likely, but you would still have the traffic issue. The driver would meet you after baggage claim, and would be carrying a sign with your name on it. It is no problem to find them.

As you will be hitting the road at about 4 pm in Rome at the earliest, you could run into a bit of traffic. Travel time to the Via Veneto area at that time of day would take something over an hour. If you don’t have a lot of luggage, the train would be faster and easier, IMO. You could then take a taxi from Rome Termini train station.

Assuming you are changing planes in Amsterdam and not just continuing on the same aircraft, you should not have to go through immigration in Italy, as you will have done this in Amsterdam. Holland and Italy are signatories to the Schengen Treaty, which suspends immigration formalities for travel between those countries and other Schenghen countries which includes some but not all EU countries (UK and Ireland are notable exceptions.) Depending on what terminal you arrive into, you may have to go through a customs channel, in which case you would either go through the “EU/Schenghen” channel or the green “nothing to declare” channel (assuming you have nothing to declare, i.e. not a ton of cigarettes or wine/liquor which is not for your own personal use). In either case, customs should will take 0 time.

If you end up having to go through immigration in Italy, this should take less than 10 minutes as there are very few large inter-continental flights arriving at that time, which does cause big delays in the morning immigration lines.

Thank you all so very much for the info. The address for the Jolly Villa Carpegna is listed as Via Pio IV, 16; Rome I- 00165. I will look at the train schedule and try to pull up a map. I'm afraid that the ride from the train station to the hotel may be longer since the hotel is not in the main part of town. Maybe if I call or email the hotel they could help me.
