Ca Bonvicini in Venice?

A kind poster, Mr. Green, directed me to this hotel in Venice. Tripadvisor has 4 reviews, 3 positive, 1 very negative. Has anyone else besides Mr. Green stayed here? The price quote for early June is 160E. Mr. Green just stayed their for 100E. Is the price jump just the difference between October and June? Thanks!

topping... (we need more actual travel questions, occupying the hearts and minds of idle hands today... and this weekend, I suppose)...

Best wishes,

Rex

One of our nights was actually Nov 1. So I am sure we were into the Low(er) season, if Venice has one of those. That is a pretty big price jump, though. Are you requesting a standard double room? I noticed on the website, it only lists the superior double rooms on the request form. You may have to specifically request the standard room.

I found more information. I found this hotel originally on Venicehotel.org
it listed the price at 96 Euros per night, which is what we paid for a double standard room. We booked the hotel direclty through the Hotel's website, but mentioned the price listed on venicehotel.org.

Mr. Green,
I emailed the hotel for availabiltiy and price of a standard room. I have been madly burning up the 'net for the last 2 days looking, looking for the perfect place to stay. Can't find it! I think I find it then the 8th reviewer on tripadvisor says it's a dump or it is too far from everything or the shower doesn't work, or the lady at reception has smelly feet or some such. I may go with this place if you tell me it is a good location for first timers...... and the price is a bit lower for standard rooms. Thanks...

The thing I discovered about Tripadvisor is that the reviews are all relative. A seasoned European traveler expects different things from a European hotel than does a frist-timer.

In Venice, almost all of the buildings are very old. Whether it is five star or one. Compared to our hotel in Florence, (which was good enough for us) our hotel in Venice was a palace. It all depends on your perspective.

This hotel was slightly difficult to find the first time, but it was close to a waterstation and once we got our bearings, had no trouble finding it again, even in the dark. Just make sure you have an excellent map. We used Mapeasy's guidemap to Venice and found it very helpful.

On the negative side, we did run out of hot water fairly quickly in the shower. So we adjusted and I showered in the evenings. But the hotel was far from dumpy and the staff was very friendly.

By the way, this was our first time to Italy, also.

Good luck with your trip planning!

OK, Mr. Green, I booked 3 nights at Ca' Bonvicini at 160E per night. When I enquired about standard rooms vs superior I was told there is only one standard available and it was 105 E. Decided not to chance it and booked the 2 superior. It's only money, right? Hahaha (I'll eat catfood when I'm old!)
