By Weight or Number?

Does BA allow only one bag to be checked in up to a certain weight? How about if I have two small suitcases totalling whatever the limit is?

they would know Aug 25th, 2002 06:47 AM

Did you call BA and ask them?

soeasy Aug 25th, 2002 06:59 AM

Josie:<BR>BA's web page will give you all necessary information:<BR><BR>http://www.britishairways.com/travel...n/public/en_gb

Joik Aug 25th, 2002 07:11 AM

Why is there ALWAYS some twit like "they would know..." who would rather put down the question than either be helpful or remain silent? <BR><BR>I don't believe Josie needs any defense, but I completely sympathize with her inclination to spend a few moments posting this question rather than devoting a half-hour on the phone in phone-menu limbo waiting to talk to someone -- assuming you can even get through to BA (not always possible in the US). As to going to their website, that's a quicker solution for the Josie's of the world, so thanks "soeasy." <BR><BR>But I don't think she's to be castigated for thinking that someone here might have the answer at their fingertips -- perhaps someone who just took a BA trip. It's analogous to sitting in one cubicle at an office and leaning back to ask the next worker a quick question. Maybe they know, maybe they don't. But if they do and they respond "why don't you call BA and ask them?" --it's just plain churlish.

Josie Aug 25th, 2002 07:42 AM

That was quick, took all of three minutes...thank you "soeasy," I got all the info I needed.<BR><BR>I couldn't call BA "they would know," I wasn't being lazy.<BR><BR>And Joik, nice to know there is someone who understands my dilemma (I think.)<BR><BR>

Rex Aug 25th, 2002 10:36 AM

Their miserly weight limit is ONLY five kilos (11 pounds). If you really do have two "suitcases" that add up to under 11 pounds, I would combine them into a single trash bag (plastic bag - - I don't mean that your luggage is trash) - - and presto, now you have ONE bag that falls under their weight limit.<BR><BR>Best wishes,<BR><BR>Rex<BR>

Luggage Aug 25th, 2002 10:45 AM

Hope I never HAVE to fly BA. I travel with two suitcases generally 45-50 pounds each. How can anyone travel with less than 11 pounds???

Jen Aug 25th, 2002 11:43 AM

11 pounds is the limit for CARRYON.

Oh Aug 25th, 2002 01:10 PM

Whew! That makes me feel better. But where in any of the postings did someone say "Carry one?"<BR> Josie said "one bag to be checked in..."<BR> Oh well. Keep traveling!!!

Jen Aug 25th, 2002 01:12 PM

Well, that's why it's better to check BA's web site than to ask here!

Rex Aug 25th, 2002 08:05 PM

If the question is about checked baggage (and I never imagined it to be) - - then I have never heard of an airline which would allow one bag of 30 kg - - but not allow two bags of 15 kg each.<BR><BR>That's why it did not occur to me that this might be the question.<BR>

Rex. Back away from the bong NOW.

On BA , your baggage allowance is dependent on which class you are flying.First and business are allowed 2 pieces of carry on but there is a weight and size restriction/

Josie Aug 26th, 2002 03:49 AM

Why is everybody tangling when I said I got all the info I needed? (Thanks to so easy.) I'm already packed.

Jim Aug 26th, 2002 04:01 AM

Because this is the Fodors board, home of compulsive posting behavior. See the posts from Rex, who appaerntly didn't even read the original question, which clearly spoke of checked luggage.

Rex Aug 26th, 2002 04:19 AM

At least on international flights (the only kind I have ever flown on BA), carry-on bags still have to be "checked in" - - which were the exact words used by Josie.<BR>

Sam Aug 26th, 2002 06:17 AM

Well, Rex, I've never flown with BA, but that's not the way they use the language on the BA web site, where they use the term checked baggage to refer to the non-cabin stuff.

Rex Aug 26th, 2002 06:28 AM

I'm sure you're right. I'm only referring to my original interpretation of Josie's question, wrong though it may have been.<BR><BR>Having flown BA, I have this rather vivid memory of having my carry-on bag very much "checked in" - - stickered, and weighed (on the return flight, when I actually did have a bag under five kilos). And on the outbound flight (JFK to LHR), the same process was used to let me know that my "carry-on" (what I thought was an appropriate carry-on) had to be "checked".<BR>

back up, to the top...<BR>

Mike Aug 26th, 2002 08:21 AM

From the what it's worth department, I flew Continental to Europe and had a carry on full of wine weighing about 50 lbs, but within size limits. Flying back on a Continental flight co-shared by Virgin Atlantic, the carry on limit was about 12 lbs. <BR><BR>
