By train -Camogli to Lucca through Aulla and the Garfagnano?

We will be going from Camogli to Lucca by train and like leisurely, scenic train rides. It looks like we could go through La Spezia to Aulla and then down through the Garfagnano (instead of the more direct route through Viareggio or Pisa). Has anyone taken the Aulla - Lucca train? Any opinions on this possible route?

Linawood, the area you wish to visit is very nice with high mountains and narrow side valleys.
The train from Aulla, up to Castlnuovo and down again to Lucca has some beautiful spots along the route but it is most in tunnel.
I think the best way to visit the Garfagnana is by car. This way you won't miss places like San Pellegrino in Alpe or the Grottos of Fornovolasco.

Thanks for your reply. That's the sort of information I was hoping to get and it's very helpful.
