Buying Yarn in France

I am a knitter. Many of the novelty yarns sold in the US originate in France. I will be visiting Bayeux, St. Malo, Dinan, Dinard, Le Mans, Amboise, Tours and Chartres this fall. If anyone knows of a place which sells yarn in these cities, please share it with me.
Thank you very much.

I do not know any where in particular BUT you are in for a treat. The yarn in europe is amazing and much nicer than in the US. Dont know how the exchange rate will treat you but I think you will be surprised.

I am excited at the prospects! If anyone knows of great places to buy the yarn, I hope they will post.

There's a chain of stores all over France called, I believe, Phildar, that sells wonderful yarns. Knitting still seems to be big in France (maybe it is in the States, too, and I'm just not aware of it, but I always notice these stores in France).

If you do a Google search for Phildar and whatever towns/cities you're interested in, I suspect you'll get the info you need.

StCirq: You always come up with the most useful answers!

Following your suggestion, I was able to get the addresses of a number of yarn shops in Paris. (I'll be back there in October, if I can restrain myself that long.)

Plus, Phildar yarns are apparently also available at the major department stores: Printemps, Bon Marche, and La Samaritaine.

Thanks again for your consistently informative advice!

Hi cmcfong,
I don't know where you can buy yarn where you are going, but I am sure there will be shops or even in department stores. Anny Blatt is the most amazing yarn I know of, and it is french. I will be expensive, but great to buy odd balls to mix in to your knitting.

Happy shopping :-)

Croque,
I haven't been for a very long time, but Galleries Lafayette in Paris used to have an huge yarn department.

cmcfong,
You can do a search here for any of their stores in 65 locations.

Golly, what wonderful suggestions. Thank you so much, Fodorites. As usual, you came through for me.
