Buying vaporetto passes

I will be arriving in Venice by train and want to purchase a 72 hr vaporetto pass. Are they purchased at a ticket office/ machine in the train station? Or are they purchased outside the train station at the vaporetto boarding area? Thank you.

You can buy them outside the train station at the vaporetto boarding area. The machines are fairly easy to use, you select the language, but be aware that the most change they can give you back if you pay with cash is 9.50 Euros. So either pay with credit card (most convenient) or have euros closest to the cost of the ticket. One more thing: Only one transaction at a time. If this is too much trouble go to the attendant. We were just in Venice two days ago. Lots and lots of people and school children on field trips. Hope you are staying overnight after the day trippers go home. Have a great time!

You can buy them online at http://www.veniceconnected.com/ where you get a discount.
Print or copy the number they assign and pick up the ticket at a veniceconnected desk at the train station (or airport for those arriving by plane). You can also collect tickets at a ACTV ticket machine.

We collected ours at the airport and it was very easy. You can also buy museum tickets at a discount from same online site.

gh - what Sally said, except that you need tp watch what time you are arriving if you want to pick up tickets at the railway station [or airport], as some of the veniceconnected desks close earlier than the last flight or train arrives. for example, we wanted to pre-order vaporetto passes and originally I was going to press the button for picking them up at the airport but the desk would have been closed by the time we got there.

just something to watch.
