buying train tickets in advance for rome to florence

A quick question
I read somewhere that vaguely describes buying train ticket in advance online is cheaper than buying it the day of the journey at the station. Is this true?
I am checking the train fare from Rome to Florence via ES is 29.44. How much would it be if we were to purchase at the train station if it is indeed more expensive?
thx!
Jane

Hi ll,

That's the regular price. Same in Italy as online.

Sometimes there are online fares for as low as 15E, but this route isn't one of them.

I can save you 44 euro-cents.

Advance ES booking -- up to 60 days before the trip -- can, subject to availability, get you to any Italian city served by ES. Cost: 29 euros.

We passed through Florence on our recent Rome-Venice journey via ES.

Yeah, but if any of you read my posts about trenitalia website booking chaos,
you may wish to wait til you get there.
That is my plan. BTW, the 4 duplicate temp charges finally dropped from my online c/c access, and none ever posted, so I am again breathing

If it is only a single train ticket, I'd simply buy it at the train station when you need it. I'm sure there are many trains each day between Rome and Florence, right?
