You were given this information on one of your other threads.

Places to visit in the Vatican? Do you mean which galleries? You can only visit those galleries which are open. Just walk by and see which ones they are.

If you mean other things - everything is on the Vatican web site. Other places to visit are the gardens, ruins, St. Peter's basilica. You could look in the shops in St. Peter's Square and in the post office, which is just a post office.

If you can afford it---and especially because of the heat---I'd strongly recommend taking a guided tour. These can be very expensive, but you can get early access to areas of the Vatican Museum (especially the Sistine Chapel) that can be madly overcrowded later in the day. A private tour can be hundreds of dollars (worth it if you can afford it), but you can avoid the lines with a small-group tour for anywhere from $75 to $150 per person. Having braved the long lines at the Vatican Museum and been very disappointed with the Sistine Chapel because of the crowds, I think that's a price worth paying. There are some recommendations on other threads on the best tours to take.

The Sistine Chapel is very crowded in the mornings and early afternoon. Tour groups tend to leave by early afternoon and the crowds are a little more manageable then. I don't know if I would spend a lot of money on a tour for a 5 year old.

The Vatican offers an audio guide DIY tour for kids 5-12. It's 5€ to rent and comes with the map route for it. It's interactive (sort of a treasure hunt type thing). While that won't be enough interest for the adults, you can look and see if the areas covered and add your own interests (there are audio guides for adults also).

The incredible Basilica itself is of course open to all, though you do have to dress and act respectfully.

Dress code for St Peter's is stringent (knees, upper arms and bosom must be covered for all adult size people) - a 5 year old can probably get away with short. But do check since 5 is too young for the Scavi tour and may be for other tours as well.
