Also, you can't just settle in NL for 6 months. Even if you have a Dutch passport. You'll have to register with the city office of records of the place where you settle.
Really? I have been thinking of moving back to the UK (dual UK/US citizenship) and it would never occur to me to register with any authority.

Uhm not in the OP's case, because he has Dutch nationality and is planning to live IN the Netherlands

Zo kun je na aankoop met dit exportkenteken naar huis rijden, als je niet in Nederland woont. Het gebruik van deze kentekenplaten door Nederlanders in Nederland is STRENG verboden!

The use of such license plates by Dutch nationals within The Netherlands is prohibited.

The options this site offers ARE legal in NL.

This has been law for a very long time in The Netherlands. You register at the municipality where you are going to live and sometimes also at the Immigration and Naturalisation Service. see page 6 of the pdf on https://www.government.nl/documents/...he-netherlands.

Even when you already live in NL and move to a new address, you have to give notice to the municipality.

I can drive in uk for 12 months on Aussie licence, but even if I could find someone to insure me... Very few companies would...it was very expensive. I couldn't believe how difficult it was going to be to buy and insure a car over here. I kept thinking this can't be right, but it was, unfortunately. Good luck...

Which local agency did you use?

I am thinking of moving to the UK (dual UK/US citizen) and may begin with a 6 or 7 month test, March-September (ish) 2019. For that time, a long term monthly rental (while driving on my US license) would work well; to this point I had only been looking at leases, which are spendy.
