buying and fitting winter tires in France
Hi,
Our trip to Europe did not materialize last year. It looks like we can make an extended trip this year. Unfortunately, we will be traveling in the winter months(oct-dec) and wish to lease a car for 2-3 months(will be staying on the country side in different countries.
We are considering the buy back lease program. Looks like they do not give the option of opting for winter tires. Further more, they require the car to be returned with standard factory fitted tired.
We are left with no option other than buying and fitting the tires ourselves.
Please help me understand if the following is feasible.
1) option 1
Take the leased car delivery in Paris. Get winter tires
a) Is there a place where we can store the standard tires which we can fit back when we return the car in/around Paris.
b) Any garage/dealer who would be able to sell us new/used winter tires and fit them to our leased car in/around Paris.
2) option 2
Buy a cheap used car with winter tires and sell it off when we return
a) Will we able to get the car registered and get an insurance (being non-EU residents)? We can buy in any of Western European schengen country.
Would appreciate your valuable suggestions.

You should write to the lease company. They will have an answer as this must have been raised before.
Not all countries or all zones in some countries require winter tyres.
Here is a good listing of where they are compulsory.
