Buy Train ticket here in Canada or in Italy???
I was planning on purchasing a point to point train ticket from Rome to Venice online. I keep getting a message that it is more than 60 days before the departure date. We are needing these tickets on May 18, so yes it is more than 60 days in advance. Do they not let you buy before then?
Also- would it just be cheaper to get one when we get to Rome? |
>Do they not let you buy before then?
No. Why should they make an exception? >Also- would it just be cheaper to get one when we get to Rome? No, it would cost you exactly the same. Most people buy their train tickets a day or two in advance, or even immediately before departure. It may be wise to book earler than that if you travel around some major holidays but otherwise - don't bother. Don't overplan. |

Thanks for your reply. Definitely answered my questions. Also- I hope I never implied that they SHOULD make exceptions...I never wrote anything to that effect anyway. It was just a question & I was wondering if I had missed something obvious.

Sure, but any train tickets in Italy can only be sold 60 days or less in advance... and selling them earlier would mean making an exception. Sorry if you took it personally - it wasn't meant so. In any case, when you land in Rome (I feel free to assume so) you can just buy the tickets you need at the airport train station. |
Hi C,
If you ar planning to see Rome, Florence and Venice AND you don't have tickets yet - it is usually about the same price to fly into Venice and out of Rome. ((I)) |
Hello chopinplayer (love your screen name). Ira's suggestion (if you haven't already purchased your airline tickets) about flying into Venice and home from Rome is due to the fact that most departures from Venice are quite early in the morning so flying home from Rome is easier. But if you have already purchased your tickets..you will be fine..everyone else flying home from Venice including me survives. P.S. I would just purchase the train tickets on arrival in Italy also, at least that is what I have always done. Have a wonderful trip.
