Buy tickets in advance for Neuschwanstein??

We will be driving from Munich for the day. Should we buy the tickets online here?
http://www.hohenschwangau.de/543.html

I believe there is an additional fee to make a reservation online - do the english tours sell out?
Or wait till we get there so we don't have to worry about get there too early or late for our ticket time.

I was glad in Barcelona to have my Sagarada Familia tickets in advance - which I am sure someone on the board advised me - so any advice here would be much appreciated!

I don't know if the online reservation or purchase affects the price but I do know the tours are VERY punctual. If you are scheduled for a tour at 11:03 then that is the time it goes whether you are there or not. I don't know for sure if they offer your money back or a later ticket but I think it is pretty strict. I would wait till I get there to buy my ticket at the ticket booth at the bottom of the hill. Be sure to tour both castles. Hohenschwangau is in my opinion the more interesting of the two.

We were there in the end of June. I was contemplating to reserve tickets online but by some reasons never did. As it turned out we were fine without the reservation. We arrived at the ticket booth around 11 am. The line seemed to be long but moved very fast and in 15 minutes we got our combination tickets for both castles.

Hi MBM,

We bought the tickets online at the same site.

Picked the tickets up earl in the AM of the afternoon of our trip.

Waited about 10 min to get the ticks.

Lines very long when the afternoon came.

If you take the horse carriage up the hill be aware that a) even if it looks as if you will not get there on time, they have phone communication and b) the carriage doesn't go up to the front door. There is about a 150 m uphill walk.

Enjoy your visit.

These tours are exactly timed and are only a few minutes apart (maybe 5?). They move ALOT of people through this place. Just be sure to be under the digital clock in the courtyard when your tour starts!

The line for the bus is long but moves quickly as they PACK the bus. As mentioned above, the bus still doesn't get you to the front door with a fairly long walk from the drop-off point to the courtyard where the tour starts. Be sure to depart the parking area with plenty of time to spare.
