Butane and security

I'm thinking of packing my cordless curling iron with my checked baggage. The problem is, I also will have to take the butane catridges it runs on. Is this still allowed?

FAA rules say no, with exceptions (aren't there always?)<BR>http://cas.faa.gov/these.html

Just took mine to Paris last month and didn't have any problems transatlantic or on flights in France.

I have flown with mine in my carryon at least six times since September. Last flight to and from Phoenix, I was selected to go through the security screening. I had to leave my half filled flask of French brandy behind (or drink it -- at 11 in the morning) and they said nothing about the curling iron.

The irons are OK - but the tanks are not allowed. Many people do get them through security - but just as many have them confiscated. (the same goes for butane lighters)
